SHUMU 슈무
Shumu (b. 1994, South Korea) graduated from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing in 2017, majoring in woodcut andcopperplate printmaking.
Shumu’s work explores how life takes form, reflecting on rhythms shared by human and non-human beings alike. Rather thandepicting specific species, she evokes inner human sensations and emotions through non-human presences. Her woodcuts engage not only with visual form, but also with touch, durational time, and the relational processes that sustain life.In these works, the physical act of carving leaves traces of breath on the surface, while layers of ink absorbed into the woodaccumulate over time. These gestures invite an attunement to what flows and what remains—between creation and decay, between what is seen and what is felt.
