LKIF is pleased to present A Stir, A Touch, A Warmth, a duo exhibition by Ruben Müller and Shumu, on view from May 9 to 30.
The exhibition expands the dialogue between the two artists, developed through Personal Structures, the international exhibition organized by ECC Italy during the 2026 Venice Biennale, into a more intimate and sensorial register, bringing together two distinct approaches to perception, relationships, and lived experience.
The 2026 theme of Personal Structures, “Confluences,” explores how artistic practices, cultures, and diverse fields of knowledge intersect to generate new forms of relation. Within contemporary conditions marked by fragmentation, movement, and rapid transformation, the exhibition understands encounters not as fixed states, but as fluid conditions continuously shaped through proximity, tension, and exchange.
Within this context, the exhibition shifts toward a quieter and more intimate sensory dimension. It reflects on how all beings are formed through their relationships with surrounding environments and others, revealing layers of experience that emerge through subtle gestures of contact and movement.
Müller presents three oil paintings that capture moments of relation shaped through gestures of touch and care. His works are imbued with the subtle rhythms of everyday sensations and actions. Rendered in pink monochrome tones, Hounds of Love and Erika and Leyla depict intimate domestic scenes, capturing moments in which emotion and meaning quietly emerge through subtle exchanges.
Meanwhile, Shumu focuses on the sensory strata of the natural world, exploring invisible flows of sensation and emotion that arise between human and non-human beings. The three woodcut paintings presented in this exhibition, In the Hush, A Stir 1, 2, 3, trace sensations perceived at the threshold of visibility. Delicately carved images of water deer responding to faint signs within quiet darkness extend toward Through the Wind, currently on view in Venice. Together with that work, which depicts a water deer running against the wind, the pieces form a four-part series.
Her practice attempts to expand sensory experience through tactile traces engraved into wood, accumulated time, and the transformation of material. Repetitive acts of carving and layers of ink absorbed into the wooden surface reveal sensory flows moving between creation and disappearance, visibility and invisibility. Through this process, the work reflects on rhythms and conditions of life shared between human and non-human beings alike.
Throughout the exhibition, the two artists’ works — engaging different environments and sensory realms — intersect through the notions of touch, movement, and warmth, revealing ways in which relationships take form. Across their practices, coexistence emerges as a condition continuously shaped through resonances between body, environment, and temporality. From gestures of contact to ways of sensing and responding to the surrounding world, the exhibition invites viewers to encounter moments in which meaning gradually takes shape within subtle layers of sensation.
LKIF Gallery는 Ruben Müller와 Shumu의 2인전 《A Stir, A Touch, A Warmth》를 오는 5월 9일부터 30일까지 개최한다.
본 전시는 2026년 베니스 비엔날레 기간 동안 ECC Italy가 주최하는 국제전 《Personal Structures》를 통해 이어진 두 작가의 대화를 보다 밀도 있는 감각의 층위로 확장하며, 지각과 관계, 삶의 경험에 대한 서로 다른 두 접근을 함께 제시한다.
2026년 Personal Structures의 주제인 “Confluences”는 예술적 실천과 문화, 다양한 학문적 영역이 교차하며 새로운 관계의 형식을 생성하는 방식을 탐구한다. 단절과 이동, 급격한 변화로 특징지어지는 동시대의 조건 속에서, 본 전시는 만남을 고정된 상태가 아닌 근접성과 긴장, 교환 속에서 끊임없이 형성되는 유동적인 상태로 바라본다.
이러한 맥락 속에서 이번 전시는 보다 고요하고 친밀한 감각의 차원으로 시선을 옮긴다. 전시는 모든 존재가 주변 환경과 타자와의 관계 속에서 형성된다는 점에 주목하며, 미세한 접촉과 움직임 속에서 생성되는 경험의 층위를 드러낸다.
뮐러는 손길과 돌봄의 제스처를 통해 관계의 순간들을 담은 세 점의 유화 작업을 선보인다. 그의 작품에는 일상의 미세한 감각과 행위의 리듬이 스며 있다. 핑크빛 모노크롬으로 그려진 <Hounds of Love>와 <Erika and Leyla>는 사적인 실내의 장면을 통해 조용한 교류 속에서 정서와 의미가 형성되는 순간을 포착한다.
한편 슈무는 자연 세계의 감각적 층위에 주목하며, 인간과 비인간 존재 사이에서 발생하는 비가시적 감각과 정서의 흐름을 탐색한다. 이번 전시에서 선보이는 세 점의 목판 회화 <In the Hush, A Stir 1, 2, 3>은 가시성의 경계에서 감지되는 감각을 따라간다. 고요한 어둠 속에서 미세한 기척에 반응하는 고라니의 모습이 섬세하게 새겨진 이 작업들은, 베니스에서 전시 중인 <Through the Wind>로 이어진다. 바람을 가르며 달려나가는 고라니의 움직임을 담은 이 작업과 함께 네 점의 연작을 구성한다.
그녀의 작업은 목판에 새겨지는 촉각적 흔적과 축적된 시간, 그리고 물질의 변화를 매개로 감각의 확장을 시도한다. 반복되는 새김의 행위와 목재에 스며드는 잉크의 층위는 생성과 소멸, 가시성과 비가시성 사이를 오가는 감각의 흐름을 드러낸다. 이를 통해 작업은 인간과 비인간 존재 사이에 공유되는 리듬과 생명의 조건을 사유하게 한다.
이번 전시에서 서로 다른 환경과 감각의 영역을 다루는 두 작가의 작업은 ‘손길’, ‘움직임’, ‘온기’라는 정서 아래 교차하며 관계의 형성 방식을 드러낸다. 두 작가의 작업 전반에 걸쳐 공존은 신체와 환경, 시간성 사이의 감응 속에서 지속적으로 형성되는 조건으로 드러난다. 접촉의 제스처에서부터 주변 세계를 감지하고 이에 반응하는 방식에 이르기까지, 관람자는 미세한 감각의 층위 속에서 의미가 서서히 형성되는 순간과 마주하게 된다.
