SEAN NOONAN
Born 1986 in Brooklyn, NY
Lives and works in Kingston, NY
Sean Noonan(b.1986) is a Hudson Valley based artist. His work interprets the outside world through the human touch. He paints on surfaces often found nearby, such as weathered wood and papers collected on the street, embracing the inherent history within the materials and evoking recollections of inferred and imagined pasts.
He strives to keep the language of his mark-making unfastened and free, summoning early crude forms that carry weight, feeling, and personalities which exist in our world but have no readily apparent reference. Seeking to capture marks singularly his own, similar to the cultivation of a person’s own handwriting developed through years of use, these motifs exist in a fluid state, with the artist anchoring them through methods and traditions of historical painting.
